Using Audacity to record line in guitar while playing the so

Post by ajri02 » Tue Aug 11, 2009 2:24 am

Is it possible in Audacity, to play a song, while recording my guitar, which is a direct line in? I'd rather not worry about chopping and putting to files together, and hoping they are in sync. For example, can I play a song, and have it record the guitar part I am playing, while the song is playing in Audacity.

I've never tried it, but, I don't see why not... Import Audio (the song), Preferences "play other tracks while recording new one", and record/play away... When done, Export as WAV... ;)

Yes. That's a fairly common request. You can do that multiple times, too and use the mute and solo controls on the left to control which tracks you hear on playback. You, too, can be all four Andrews Sisters.

Given your computer and drives are up to it....

You may discover some amusing problems with delay between the tracks. You can adjust that...in Audacity 1.3.
