Okay, my wife got me this turntable and my 1st i-pod so I could transfer my albums into my computer then download them to my i-pod. Who the hell wrote these instructions? Oh wait..there aren't any!! Sure, I'm a turntable, reel to reel kind of guy but I can't find any instructions in PLAIN english, not techno garble, as to how to record a song, store it into a file then transfer it to my i-pod. And the more I read from Audacity, the more asprin I need. Can someone help me?? Please contact me at mrzydeco at gmail dot com

THANKS!!
Kenny

Hi Kenny,

The folks that wrote the instructions are the same kind of folks that wrote the software i.e unpaid volunteers who give up their free time to develop and support this software.

Audacity is not a major corporation, with large teams of developers and documenters and testers (we, the users, are a major part of the testing team) it is just this group of folks who do it in their spare time for the love of it - and a belief in the power of open source software.

A little scratching around will yield a fair amount of documentation and tutorials for this software. See the little links in the Forum banner which says "Find immediate answers in our Tips and Tutorials".
But to make it a little easier for you - start off with these pages from the Wiki:
1) http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... uter_or_CD
2) http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... ate_tracks
3) http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... s_and_iPod
I believe that there are also some tutorials on the use of Audacity available with t'interweb - start off looking in Youtube

And this is the main Wiki page: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... _Home_Page

The documentation may be read here http://audacityteam.org/help/documentation - but I would start with the tutorials rather than diving straight into the manual.

And don't overlook the Search tool at the top right of the Forum window - this will help you find previous postings with similar problems that you are likely to encounter.

I'm afraid that you have a steepish learning curve then - recording digitally on computers usually requires that you have at least a fair understanding of how your computer, its operating system and its sound services work. The documenters work hard to try to avoid techno-babble (I know, I am one of the editors ...) as far as possible - but it is not always possible to avoid technical terms and explanations. As you get more experienced perhaps you would like to make your contribution by volunteering to join the documentation/editing team to help write instructions that are even clearer?

The volunteers on this forum do not like responding to private emails or PM's on the forum - it is considered far better to keep all discussions on the open forum so that all readers can benefit.

And BTW I would strongly recommend that you do not post your email address on public forums like this - spammers trawl forums like this to harvest valid email addresses. I have edited your posting to help you avoid this ....

==================================

Welcome to the Audacity community - you should have a lot of fun with your digitization project - and you should find this forum a very useful resource as you develop your skills with Audacity. We work hard to keep this a sane and friendly corner of cyberspace.
