Timeline to Clock time

Post by djash » Mon Oct 22, 2007 10:08 pm

Is there a way to record and display clock time instead of a timeline?
If I set up to record a meeting of mixed talk and music and I want to hit record and relax recording the whole session only taking notes on when something of interest starts and stops so when I'm done I can go to that position in time and cut parts of a track of particular interest.
So I'm looking to see if there is a way to change the timeline to clock time or add it as a feature request.
Thanks in advance.

A very qualified yes.

Set your capture system to three or four channels of capture audio. Set your timecode generator to run time of day and start it. Plug the TC generator into channel 3 or channel 4 or both.

When you play back the recording, plug channel 3 playback into a timecode reader and it will read the time of day that the recording was made.

SMPTE Timecode is an audio signal and any medium quality audio service will record it and play it back. I think I saw a cassette machine do it once.

The other thing you can do us use a video camcorder to record the show in the first place. Leave the lens cap on. Pick a camcorder that will record time of day. I think most of them will. You can capture the recording using your notes because all MiniDV equipment I know of will read the time track.

Instead of taking notes you could just add a label at the playback position each time there is something interesting (CRTL + B), then use the labels to navigate.
