separating all the tracks
separating all the tracks
Heres what I am trying to do. I recorded some music off a streaming radio site and I want to cut away the fade from the previous song, the dj's voiceover and the fade in from the next song so as to be left with only the desired audio. Is there a way in the beta version to separate all the vocals and drums, guitar, voiceovers, etc. to individual tracks for listening purposes and then eliminate from there what I don't want?

Even better, there's no way to do that in either Audacity 1.2 or 1.3, or any other audio program.
The best you can do is put one song on the timeline and the second song on a separate timeline and move them back and forth until they overlap just right. Then apply the envelope tool (bent blue line, upper left) to fade one song out while you fade the other one in, like at the clubs. If the DJ insisted on talking over the segue points (that all good dance tunes have), then the job is harder, but not impossible.
You do need to work with what's there because there's no good way to pull apart the instruments.
