zoom function - erased my soundfile

Mac 10.8.5
Audacity 2.1.2
downloaded program

Hello - I am new to Audacity, and while going through the tutorial, I selected the ‘zoom’ tool, which caused my soundfile disappear, and there is no option under ‘edit’ to ‘undo’ or correct the problem.

What could have gone wrong?

Thanks in advance -

If it really is a zoom problem, you can get back to normal with Command-F which is “Full Show.” That should be your full presentation beginning to end.

There’s four (or more) zoom tools up in the toolbar. Which did you click?

Describe the show. Sometimes odd behavior can be linked to what you’re doing.

Do you still have a skinny blue line at 0.0 (attached)?

I only ever use three hotkey zooms.

Zoom (Mac)
– Drag-select something on the timeline and zoom into it. Command-E
– Zoom out a little bit. Command-3
– Zoom out full. Command-F

– Shift-ScrollWheel or Shift-TouchPadScrub will shift the timeline view left and right (sooner and later).

Change the timeline so it doesn’t shift by itself:
– Audacity > Preferences > Tracks > [_] Update display while playing. (de-select)
…Note: Update Display is good during recording.
