XP, wxWidgets, startup error

Hello there,

whenever starting Audacity on an XP system, a popup appears stating “This application has failed to start because wxbase28u_vc_custom.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem” (see attachement) for detailed image…

Audacity versions used:
2.0.3 as build from svn
2.0.2 as downloaded from your site

2.0.3 was build against wxWidgets 2.8.12 both with ASIO and without ASIO support on a win7 machine with Visual Studio 2008 according to the respective build instructions.
Both versions run fine on the win7 machine, both versions terminate with the mentioned error on the xp machine.

Thanks for your kind support

Did you build on XP or 7?

Do you get the same error if you run Audacity from the build directory (with the widgets DLL files present in the build directory)?

Are you using winaudacity.iss to build the installer?

The usual answer to launch problems on XP is to install or repair the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (see http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_installation_and_plug_ins.html#probs ), though launch errors normally say the “configuration is incorrect”. Especially if you built on Win 7, try the Redistributable Package.

If that does not help, right-click over audacity.exe and try different compatibility options.

No, 'cause the issue only applies to an xp machine with no Compiler installed

Yes

You mean installing the Redistributable package on the xp machine? Gonna try that…

Thanks for your quick response!

Marcus

Yes, please try that…
