I imported voice notes (an interview with my mom) as separate tracks and edited them in Audacity, but am having trouble combining them. I saved the files to the cloud; per instructions am attempting to download them to my Mac in order to combine them, but they save as AUP3 files that I can’t reopen in Audacity. I’m also unable to drag and drop one track to another. Any suggestions?
.aup3 files are not audio files. They are Audacity Project files. You need to export them to an audio format (.wav, .aiff, .mp3, whatever).

What do you mean “imported … as separate tracks”. Multiple tracks in one Audacity project, or single tracks in multiple Audacity projects?
What do you mean “attempting to download them”. Are they not downloading properly?
AUP3 files should open with Audacity 3.7.7. Which version of Audacity do you have?
Note that you can’t “import” Audacity files into an Audacity project the way you can import WAV, MP3, etc. files.

Should avoid using mp3 format unless you have to.

WAV format is better quality, at the cost of bigger file size.
