I’m a nube but have recorded some cassettes. I am trying to do this again, now, but when I press record audacity doesn’t. It’s as if the arrow in the track window is frozen.
Any ideas?
Also will Audacity by any chance automatically reduce excessive back-round noise? Some of these tapes are awfull.
Check that the recording device set in the device toolbar corresponds with the audio device that you are using. For example, if you are recording from a USB cassette player, ensure that the USB option is selected in the device toolbar.
“Awful” is hard to deal with. You will not be able to turn “awful” into “good”, but you may be able to turn “awful” into “a bit less awful” using the Noise Reduction effect (http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/noise_reduction.html).
If you need more help please give more information about exactly how you are recording the cassettes. How is the sound getting into the computer? If it is a USB cassette device, connect it to a spare USB port, not a to a computer hub that has other USB devices connected to it.
