wont recognize my akai interface

i am trying to use an Akai Pro EIE (electronic interface expander), downloaded the sound driver and everything… audacity wont recognize or discover it so i cant use it. how can i get it to be seen by the program so that i can select it as my sound driver???

Ensure that the Akai is connected to the computer and recognised by Windows before you open Audacity.
If you start Audacity first you will need to “Rescan for audio devices” (Transport menu) after the Akai has been recognised by Windows.

yeah it was being recognized by windows, there’s a “panel” that is installed with the sound driver and it shows whether or not is picking anything up. It works fine with wavepad sound editor but i rather use audacity so im frustrated. I will try to rescan for it though and see if it can recognize it

For the “host” setting in the device toolbar, try the MME option - that is usually the most compatible.

If still no joy, select “Audio device info” in the Audacity help menu and copy and paste the contents into your reply. That will tell us if Audacity can see your device at all.

yeah i dont see it here

My guess is that you have installed ASIO drivers for the Akai, but no “Windows” drivers.
Audacity cannot be shipped with support for ASIO due to licensing restrictions, so for Audacity to be able to use the device you must have Windows USB drivers installed for it.

I suggest that you check here to see that you have the latest drivers: http://www.akaipro.com/product/eiepro#downloads (2.9.55)
Then reinstall the drivers, following the instructions in the manual very carefully. it is often important to do things in the right order when installing drivers, so read the instructions before you start.

When it’s all done, reboot the computer.

the Akai EIE that is not pro, doesn’t have drivers, or it contains its own. So it’s not a driver issue. Audacity recognizes my Akai EIE but I can’t figure out how to get it to record all 4 tracks simotaniously.

You may need to set the “host” to “WASAPI” in the device toolbar and then set the “number of channels” to “4”.
