Won't Import MP3

Hello,

I have conducted several phone interviews for my campus radio station’s news program using RevRecorder, and only 5/6 of them have managed to import. One of them keeps giving the vague error message that it cannot be read, that it might not be an mp3 or that it might be “uncompressed”.

It is definitely an mp3 as the other recordings from the same app went through importing just fine, and I’ve tried uncompressing it to no avail.

I’ve seen through my searches that similar problems have happened to users of Audacity in the past, and they were prompted to use the LAME audio encoder, which I have downloaded but does not show up anywhere in my applications folder, nor anywhere on my computer.

Through further searches, I’ve found that LAME had is license expired and the software is now built into audacity, but this still doesn’t fix my issue. I need this audio to be edited by the end of this week. We are in a COVID pandemic, after all.

Use this webpage to analyse the problem file: https://mediaarea.net/MediaInfoOnline
Copy and paste the full information about that file from the webpage into your reply.

Lame was needed to make a new MP3 back when making an MP3 was licensed. That’s not true any more.

Audacity has been able to open MP3 files forever. If it can’t, then the file is broken or it’s not an MP3. You can get a clue by telling your Mac to display filename extensions.

Desktop > Finder > Preferences > Advanced > Show all…

If that doesn’t tell you enough, then yes, use Steve’s link to find out what you really have.
