WMP Recording - Mic Question

Newbie here…
I’m recording from Windows Media Player into Audacity and the default Imput Device is my internal microphone…
First, I don’t want to listen to it record (long audiobook), but if I mute speakers etc it doesn’t record.
Second, since the mic is open, room noise and voices are picked up

Can’t is use a direct connection??? What are the WSAudio Devices??? Is there anyway around this?

TIA
Tom

Some computers allow recording music playing on the computer and some don’t. It’s not a guaranteed service.

I found a reference to stereo mix, (what ever that is) and enabled it in ‘recording devices’ and it works to record without using the mic.
