Currently, “Generate” type plug-ins will automatically create a mono audio track unless an existing audio track is selected.
There are occasions when this is not appropriate, for example “apropos.ny” (which does not generate audio) and “binaural tones” (which generates a stereo sound).
In these situations it would be better if Generate type plug-ins created audio tracks according to the type of data returned from the plug-in.
Proposal for Generate type plug-ins:
- If the plug-in returns a mono sound and no audio track is selected, then a mono audio track is created.
- If the plug-in returns a multi-channel sound and no audio track is selected, then a multi-channel audio track with the appropriate number of channels is created. (current maximum number of channels = 2)
- If the plug-in does not return audio, then no audio track is created.
