Windows Media cannot read .WAV file saved via Audacity

Hello All,

I would appreciate any help re the following:
(Using Audacity 2…exe.installer, Windows 2007)
The problem:
Saving one Audacity Project file (2.4MB, about 14 minutes duration, 32 'channels to it, 16 bit, 8,000hz) to .WAV.
When I re-open .WAV file (within Audacity), only 1 or 2 of the channels seem to have been saved.
Also, when I by-pass Audacity and try to play via Windows Media, it refuses to open.
I had the same problem with version 1.3.

Many thanks in anticipation of your help!

I don’t think you can Export a standard WAV for that. You have to use Other Uncompressed Formats - WAV and do it that way. Standard WAV Export will insist on rendering to Stereo. That’s a setting in Preferences.

I’m not shocked Windows Media couldn’t figure it out. Do you have a 32-channel sound card and all the system drivers needed? If not, Windows Media will have no idea what to do.

By default Audacity mixes down tracks to mono or stereo audio files.
If you require a multichannel audio file, see here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/import_export_preferences.html#export

Note that Windows Media Player will probably not know what to do with a 32 channel audio file.

Many thanks to you both for your kind help.
