I want to add a tambourine to a song. I want the tambourine to play clearly in both right and left speakers. All I seem to get is the tambourine playing in one single area when I mix. Does anyone know how to do that? Thank you.

I seem to get is the tambourine playing in one single area when I mix.

What? Do you mean you only hear the tambourine in the left or right?

Is it a stereo or a mono recording. How did you record it? (What hardware?)

What happens when you play the tambourine file alone before mixing?

Thank you. I put a song on audacity. everything was stereo. then I got a tambourine sound from youtube. At certain intervals in the song, I wanted to add the tambourine sound into the song. Then when I finished, I hit export audio. When I played it back, the tambourine sound sounds like it is in the center of the song. I was hoping I could get the tambourine sound separated like it was coming from the right side of the song and at the same time coming from the left side of the song. I experimented clicked on the option split stereo track. I then put one tambourine track at left speaker and one tambourine track at right speaker. I then hit export audio and the tambourine sounded the same way - right in the middle of the song. It sounded ok for most songs, but I wanted to split the tambourine sound and make it sound like it was on the right of the song and at the same time sounding liken its coming from the left side of the song.

You can also split to mono then use the L…R pan slider on each mono track. You can have more control that way. Make sure it sounds correct before you export.

Gale Andrews: Thank you. What you said works. The tambourine sound can now be heard on the left side of the song and at the same time, on the right side of the song. I initially thought you might be incorrect because when I was working with the tambourine track, I did at one time go to the option that says split stereo to mono. But then I would go to where it says mono left channel - and I would use that for one tambourine track then I would go to
mono right channel for the other tambourine track. I thought that would have the tambourine sound coming the left of the song and at the same time the right side of the song. But you are a genius. This time, when I went to split to mono, I took your advice and panned left and then panned right. I also increased the volume. IT WORKED!!! I have been going crazy trying to get that effect. Thank you very much. Take care. Happy Holidays.

Setting the channel to Left with the L…R slider somewhere between centre and left should be similar to setting the channel to Mono and panning hard left. Same with setting the channel to Right, which should be similar to setting to Mono and panning hard right.

Panning of mono is much more flexible.
