Win 10 no device error

Hi everybody

I’m using an external card on a PC with Windows 10. Audacity was not working, I had the message “no devices”, until I disabled the internal cards leaving active only the external adapter.

It seems that the setup of Windows 10 enable the internal sound cards.

I hope it will be helpful

Thank you for the report.

Audacity does not yet officially support Windows 10.

Some other users have reported the reverse case - where unplugging an external device removes the “no devices” message in Audacity. So it seems that under Windows 10, if some devices are not recognised by Audacity, it may fail to see any devices.

Have you visited the web site of the computer manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer and seen if you can find the latest Realtek audio drivers for Windows 10 meant for your specific computer model?

Hy gale

I have just downloaded and installed the last driver from Realtek site (R2.79). It doesn’t work. As before, the only way is to disable the Realtek devices and use the external card.

I know this is a workaround but who can use an external card maybe can use Audacity in this way

As the Realtek site and and posts about this in the Forum make clear, drivers obtained directly from the Realtek site are generic and not fully matched to your motherboard.

If you have not already done so, go to the web site of the computer manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer and see if you can find audio drivers for Windows 10 meant for your specific computer model.

I am sorry, Gale, the latest version of my driver from manufacturer website is dated 2010. Windows Update has installed his last version that was few days older than the last driver from Realtek site

So do those Windows Update drivers still not allow Audacity to use the Realtek devices?

All you can do is try different drivers for Realtek, such as the 2010 drivers, or the Microsoft hdaudio.sys drivers, or try Audacity 2.0.2 or 2.0.3 from http://www.oldfoss.com/Audacity.html.
