Why has Audacity suddenly stopped recognizing my home studio configuration which is based upon a Newmark M6USBDJ mixer, I to which I have two Technics Quartz turntables, a CD player, a Pyle dual cassette deck and a Behringer interface for my two microphones? I am a voiceover and commercial DJ spokesman.
I assume all of that equipment has one USB connection to the computer?
Check your Windows Permissions/Privacy Settings.
And/or try Listen To This Device to make sure Windows is getting a signal.
Yes. The M6 mixer is “the brain”
Also, how do I pr where do I find “windows permissions/privacy settings”? I looked to only find major frustrations! OMG! How do I find “Listen To This Device to make sure Windows is getting signal”? I tried. Is this on Audacity tool bar or in my Windows Control panel. I am at a loss, people.

All right thank you for the reply so far but they have not worked and I think I have figured out what I need to do I just need to revert to audacity version 3.2.1 because that’s the last time it worked with my USB numark mixer in my home studio for voiceover and DJ music. I tried to find the link that’s these site or hit a dead end very confusing. Can anybody give me a direct link please to download Audacity version 3.2.1? Many thanks.
Older versions of Audacity are here.
(You might have to right-click.)
Well, I went back to and downloaded/installed Audacity 3.2.1 since 2023 was the last version that recognized my set-up and worked for both music recording and my voice-overs, but I STILL cannot get a signal. I tried “WindowsDirectSound, MME and Windows WASAPI” all to no avail. Is there anything else I can try, please. This is very frustrating now.
Well, thank you to those who have made suggestions, but nothing has worked. Honestly, I’m thinking about destroying this laptop and buying another one, in-order to start fresh. This one was supposed to be my “secondary” machine and dedicated to my home studio use ONLY and I am the only one living here using my home studio. At wits-end. ![]()
That sounds very drastic and it might still not work. How sure are you of the hardware? Could it be a damaged cable or something that simple? Have you tried just connecting part of your chain such as the mixer or audio interface on its own?
In spite of the continuing changes in Windows 11 settings I would still recommend typing the mmsys.cpl command in the windows run option panel. Before opening Audacity this is where you can check your recording and playback devices and where you will also find the “listen to” option for any recording interface.
If the equipment you use does not show up in this control panel there could be problems with hardware or drivers which should be checked using “device manager”.
After establishing that your recording equipment is working then take a look at permissions in settings - privacy and security-
