Why did Audacity deprecate the transport tool feature in 3x

Hi We work with a local Eugene community radio station and have been using Audacity regularly since 1x both on Windows and Mac. Some of the early features we found very handy (like the transport tool). Now, in using 3.3 it has been pretty difficult in win 10 to move clips on the timeline. The “handles” don’t work, and grabbing each clip at the top to be able to move it (the new transport feature) is time consuming and oftentimes mistake ridden. Just to let you know how it’s working in real time.

thanks for your work,
Rick

The “handles” don’t work, and grabbing each clip at the top to be able to move it (the new transport feature) is time consuming and oftentimes mistake ridden.

I’m not sure I understand what you mean. The top area of the clip are the thing we call “clip handle drag bars”, or “clip handles” for short. What do you mean by “clip handles”?

Also, can you elaborate on what makes things slower now? In our eyes, being able to drag a clip around at any time is faster than having to go into a special mode first.

Hi, in aud 2.4 in windows 10 we were used to clicking on a clip (it would be highlighted, but no more) then selecting the transport feature, and then moving the clip or clips. We always knew which clip we were dealing with and it was easy, once selected. Now, if you click on a clip, you oftentimes have to guess if it’s selected. Then, unless you have the aud window blown up to encompass the entire screen, it is very difficult to grab the top area of a clip and oftentimes again, I move the cursor or unselect the clip. The help files for this “transport” feature call it “clip handles.” I have no idea why, but you obviously need a better descriptor for the process for a majority of your users, who have to use it, to transport clips.

I certainly hope this explains it in lay persons terms,
Rick
