Hi, I used to have audacity on a previous computer and it worked fine. I just installed it on my laptop running windows 8 and tried to record a piece. During recording you can see the wave for the sound and it looks like it is recording, however when I press stop, it all turns to flatline and nothing plays back. Any help would be appreciated!
It sounds like Audacity cannot write to the specified temporary directory. I suggest you open Edit > Preferences, choose “Directories” on the left, then on the right, press Choose… to select a directory where you have permission to write. Click “OK” and “OK” then restart Audacity.
If you had already saved a project and were recording into that saved project, then the problem is with the directory you saved the project to.
If the problem persists after changing the Audacity temp directory, please post the contents of Help > Show Log… .
