WHEN I RECORD AND ACTUALLY BURN IT TO A CD IT SOUNDS LOW???

I have looked in youtube and everywhere else I can think off to try to find the answer to my dilemma. Originally when I record, I try to see how high the levels are in the waveforms that are being recorded. And I also try to see the green and red bars in the top, but for some reason the green bars are never too high just the red go proximally half way. Now when I export it and listen to it in my cd player in the car it sound low, to the point I have to raise the volume all the way in order to enjoy it. Please help me get this on the right track. I’m using a MacBook Pro and 1.2 in audacity

Before you Export your recording, apply the “Amplify” effect to it (Effect menu - set the target level to around -1 dB).
