When I quit Audacity, it thinks it has crashed but it hasn't

Using Audacity version 2.2.1. Operating system OS X 10.14.6.

When I try to quit Audacity, I either left-click on the icon and select “quit” or I go to Audacity > Quit Audacity. Either way, it quits fine, but when I try to open Audacity again, I get an error message telling me that “Audacity quit unexpectedly”, as if the program had crashed rather than been shut down properly. Whether I click “Ok” or “Reopen”, it opens fine except that about half of the time I have issues with it recognising that my USB microphone is attached. I am using a Samson C01UPro. The only way to get it to recognise the microphone is to quit Audacity and try relaunching it.

The error message goes on for many, many pages. I have attached images of the first four pages. How can I get Audacity to recognise that I am shutting it down correctly, and it has not crashed?
