I just reinstalled Windowx XP SP3 with latest updates and Audacity 2.0,5. When I import an audio file I am able to edit the file, apply filters, export the modified file and etc. However, when I want to preview and press play, there is no playback…there is only a blinking cursor moving repetively downward through the audio tracks where the insertion bar had been placed. The source file was .flac and the output file was .wav both files play normally outside Audacity 2.0.5.
Where is Audacity trying to put the sound?
Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Devices > Playback.
Wait. The cursor moves downward or to the right?
Koz
At the point where the selection tool is placed (starting point for playback) I get a blinking vertical line segment that sequentially displays downwards at the position of the selection tool’s vertical marker. Playback speed is at default as are all other user settings. The only libraries that have been added are LAME 3.99.3 and FFmpeg F(52.64.2),C(52.72.2,U(50.15.1). They are both specified for use with Audacity 2.0.5.
I have removed Audacity, cleaned the system registry and user area files then reinstalled with .exe file from website…all to no avail.
Try running the Audacity installer again and watch out for the option to “Reset Preferences”. Select that option and continue the installation. When you start Audacity, confirm that you want to reset preferences.
If the problem remains after that, then the problem may be with the sound card drivers.
Let us know how you get on with resetting preferences before we go further.
