When I convert multiple files from mp3 to m4a it loses the details (e.g., Album) associated with each file. It takes the details in the last file I try to convert and populates all the files with the same details. I have attached a copy of what File Explorer looks like after the conversion has completed.
Tagging has been a long-time a known weakness and it doesn’t seem to be a priority of the developers.
Part of the problem is that different formats use different tag formats. MP3 uses ID3 tags and I’m not exactly sure what M4A uses. (WAV is the least standardized).
Audacity doesn’t support embedded artwork at all.
You can try MP3 tag which works on all of the popular formats, not just MP3. You can copy from the old file to the new but I’m not sure how much of that can be automated because some of the field names may be different.
Or if you are just converting without editing, try Kabuu Audio Converter. Once you’ve set-up your output format and output location, it’s just drag, drop, and click, and it can convert a batch of files at once. …And your tags will probably turn-out better.
Hello,
Thank you so much for your advice. I tried Kabuu Audio Converter as you recommended. I receive an ‘Artwork write failed’ message on most conversions; however, when I ask File Explorer for the details (see attached image), I obtain all the information I really need.
Again, thanks for your assistance.
