Waveform will not stay still ...

Hi, I’m using Audacity 2.4.2 on an iMac with 10.13.6 High Sierra … this year of iMac won’t take any upgrades is what I’m told. The waveform in the track window will not stay still, it does not want to stay at 0:00 on the left, this, as you can imagine, is a real aggravation. Don’t know where to ask for a remedy if this forum will only deal with MacOS 10.4. I don’t know if this is an Audacity setting or a Mac setting that needs attention.
Thanks in advance ! Mike

We will be happy to try and help you, but I don’t understand what you mean:
“The waveform in the track window will not stay still, it does not want to stay at 0:00 on the left”

Perhaps if you walk us through what you are doing and what you see, then we may get an idea of what’s happening.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Ok, I have Audacity running with one mono track in the track window. Normally the 0:00 point of the track is visible at the left edge, or side, of the track window. I constantly have to Command - F to view the whole mono track. The track moves on it’s own to the left so I am not seeing the 0:00 time on the mono track. When I go to select a section of the track, sometimes it jitters ( for lack of a better description ) or it moves to the left for no apparent reason. Don’t know if it’s a Zoom issue, a mouse issue, a mac issue … It’s got me baffled.

Maybe playhead is pinned: the waveform scrolls past to the left …

If so unpinning is the cure … https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/timeline.html#pinned

Thanks Trebor … the Play/Record head button was not pinned but after spending some time checking and unchecking the options there to figure out how each option works, I have left it unpinned and can’t seem to get the waveform to jump to the left as it was doing when I select a point with the cursor. So, I don’t fully understand how I got it to function properly but I’ll take the result . Thanks again !
