I have recorded some voice overs and i am trying to export in waveform 16 bit 44100 mono, when i send to export file my computer states that it will “mix down my tracks to two stereo channels in the exported file” even though I have exported as mono. is there a way around this?
Did you touch the L…R pan control to the left of the tracks in your editing or production? If you did, you now have a stereo show which is required for panning.
All of your tracks should say MONO on the left information panel.
If one of them says Left or Right, Audacity may force a stereo show to accommodate it.
Does your Device Toolbar say MONO

None of them have the balance to either side all of the have the mono
None of them have the balance to either side
That’s not what I said. If you touched any of them, Audacity will force a stereo show in the background and not tell you, even if you put the controls back to the middle. It’s one of the less fuzzy-warm features.
I don’t know how to tell if you trigged that feature—other than you get stereo when you’re not expecting it. I don’t know how to untrigger it.

Do you really have two-track mono? Both upper and lower tracks and absolutely, completely the same? Use the zoom tools to magnify the blue waves to make sure.
Zoom (Windows)
– Drag-select something on the timeline and zoom into it. Control-E
– Zoom out a little bit. Control-3
– Zoom out full. Control-F

That is not correct, Koz. It would be a bug if it was so, would it not?
To make sure each pan slider is centered, hold the mouse button down on the slider and see if the tooltip says “Pan: Center”. If it does not, double-click the slider, type “0” (without quotes, the zero character) and click OK.

Pretty much my thoughts when we talked about this on the forum.
“That’s an Awkward or Unfortunate Feature (AUF), isn’t it?”
Are you sure it doesn’t work that way? Jury’s still out why the poster is getting an unexpected stereo show.

We don’t know what version of Audacity joaquingch is using.
I don’t believe 2.1.3-alpha or recent Audacity has this problem. I tried 2.1.3-alpha.
Where is the Forum topic where you talked about this happening?
