I have used Audacity for awhile for just some small editing and mainly noise removal. When I finished up with the latest recording I saved the project (recommended copy way) and chose to export it as a WAV file. This is the first time I have received a warning that the file will be saved as a nonstandard extension named .1st1
This file is wont work with the other video editing software I have. How come its forcing the .1st1 and what can I do to correct this.
windows 8.1
Audacity 2.0.4
I am not sure what your referring too. I can open the extension that audacity saves it as in media player but its not a .wav so its not compatible with the video editing software I’m using.
If you enter a file name with no dots, then Audacity will add the appropriate file extension.
So if you enter “song” as the file name and export as a WAV file, it will be exported as “song.wav”
Audacity thinks that if you use a dot in the file name that you want whatever is after the dot to be the file extension.
So if you enter “song.wav” as the file name and export as a WAV file, it will be exported as “song.wav”
but if you enter “song.1st1” as the file name then Audacity thinks that you want the file extension to be “.1st1” and it will be exported as “song.1st1”
As a general rule, avoid all punctuation or other “special” characters in file names. Numbers, letters, hyphen (-) and underscore (_) are safe to use.
WOW Steve that was awesome. That was so simple but you just blew my mind. Thanks for that explanation also, what ever you do in your profession you need to get a raise buddy. pwew
