WAV and Lame MPS Recorder

I’m new to all of this and am totally confused. I only just received my MBeat turntable and Audacity program which I updated to Audacity 2.x. My problem is twofold. 1> When I save the recored LP as a .WAV file and pla it back on Window (Vista) Media Player there is no sound?
2> I went to one site to try and get a copy of Lame MP3 recorder whic gave me a Conduit(?) site. However my antivirus program, McAfee, came up with a warniing about phishing so I aborted the download. Is ther anywhere I can get Lame MP3 safely?

When you “Save” in Audacity it creates an “Audacity Project” that only Audacity can use.
To create a normal audio file you need to “Export”.

Audacity uses LAME for exporting in MP3 format. It is only required if you want to export in MP3 format.
