Volume changes when loading files

I’ve been using Audacity for several years, and never ran into this issue. When I download an audio file to the ACX format, it tends to alter the volume of all the other files previously downloaded. It’s probably something very simple, but is terribly frustrating - and I’ve spend entirely too much time with this issue…UGH! I’m certain I’ll kick myself when I find out what’s happening…PLEASE HELP

When I download an audio file to the ACX format

What??? Do you mean when you export to MP3?

it tends to alter the volume of all the other files previously downloaded.

I don’t know what’s happening, but when you save/export a file no… Other unrelated files are not “touched”.

That’s exactly what I thought. But, somehow, all the previously mp3 files previously uploaded, either become louder or softer. How can there be a connection? I feel as though I have gremlins wandering around my project!

Windows (not Audacity) has a feature which automatically turns down the volume if it “thinks” the combined sound-output of multiple softwares will be too loud. It can be switched off, see …
