Voice is Recording but Receiving no Playback

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using Audacity trouble-free for the past year or so but I’ve stumbled across a problem today that I can’t seem to resolve.

When recording my voice, Audacity picks it up fine but nothing plays back when I replay my voice in Audacity.

My speakers/ headphones are working fine as I can hear the notifications from my PC and other programs work fine in terms of sound, but there is no audio when my recording is played back. The only thing I can do is to save the file as an MP3 and listen back to my recording using iTunes, but I want to edit it.

After uninstalling Audacity and installing the latest version as well as searching the forums and looking on Google and YouTube, I didn’t know where else to turn. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Audacity can route sound independently of what the rest of the computer is doing. You can set that with the Device Toolbar.

That’s a graphic shortcut for the Audacity Preferences Settings.

Sometimes you can plug a USB sound device in and Windows will assume it’s a speaker… And it’s not. You can go round and round with that until you figure out what’s what happened. No matter how hard you send sound out to a turntable, it’s not going to make any noise.

Reinstalling Audacity doesn’t reset it. To get a reset you have to change an information file.
