Voice Echo Recorded using Skype

Hello,

I am using 2.0.6 on OSX 10.9.5

My issue is that I am attempting to edit several interviews recorded on Skype that are in the unfortunate position of having been recorded such that I can hear the interviewee’s voice coming through the interviewer’s computer as well (I believe this is the case…). Sometimes the delay is around 1 second, sometimes it is a few frames off, either way it is a very noticeable echo as the person is talking.

I have tried Noise Remover, Notch Filter, Graphic EQ, Noise Gate, Vocal Remover…all to basically no positive effect. Because I can’t just kill the delayed, electronic-y version of his voice (the man is more or less a baritone) without taking out the nice one.

I’m not looking for a miracle, but any help/knowledge would be nice!!

Actually…

That’s probably Skype echo cancellation leakage. If you’re doing a multi-point interview, everybody should be wearing headphones. If you don’t, you’re going to get…what you got.

If Noise Gate failed, I think you’re in reshoot territory.

You have a version of a #4 violation.

The Four Horsemen of Audio Recording (reliable, time-tested ways to kill your show)
– 1. Echoes and room reverberation (Don’t record the show in your mum’s kitchen.)
– 2. Overload and Clipping (Sound that’s recorded too loud is permanently trashed.)
– 3. Compression Damage (Never do production in MP3.)
– 4. Background Sound (Don’t leave the TV on in the next room.)
