Vocal Recording problems - repeating when singing

Hi, I hope someone can help here:)

I’m using windows 7 and latest version of audacity.

I was using the beta version but just updated, though I had problems in both versions.

When I try to record a vocal I hear myself being repeated back at the same time, with a slight delay. I notice when I go to effects, the repeat back effect is in grey the rest are in black. I can’t seem to change it? If this is the problem how do I change it, if it isn’t, what is the procedure to resolve the problem?

“Transport menu > Software Playthrough” should be off.
