hi
when i am about to record records into my computer i open up that "line in"from my volume control and use the slider on it to comtrol the sound quaiity from a tape.do i need that with audicity?

Knowing nothing about your machine, I can tell you that Audacity is a complete slave to the machine its running on. If you can get the computer to produce a good, clear, crisp sound signal, then Audacity will record it.
On some machines, you can move the Audacity Record volume control and it directly affects the sound control in the computer. You can open up both windows on the screen and watch both controls move when you push one. Some machines the control is completely different and it’s up to you to deal with it.
