I have an ion double tape deck
It is connected to my Mac by a usb cable plugged in at the back of the deck
I have Audacity installed.
As far as I can see all is properly plugged in and working. I can hear the music through my speakers, and see the programme working.
I want to copy my old cassettes onto a 16gb memory stick (also plugged into the Mac) using WAV files
I understand that I have to choose the EXPORT option to get those files onto my plugged in memory stick.
BUT!
Audacity won’t let me choose that option.
It wants to save it as a project and then send the tracks to iTunes (which I never use).
All the set up stuff I have read says I should be able to do what I want. So why would Audacity refuse to let me use EXPORT and if I have a memory stick what would be the point of the music going to iTunes??
If you know what the problem is, please reply with a list of instructions. Please don’t confuse me with ‘ifs’ ‘buts’ or options! I’m an old dude and not tech savvy.
There’s nothing wrong with the Mac. It’s up to date, and the Audacity prog is the latest version.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Audacity doesn’t know what iTunes is, so it is not Audacity doing that. I’m not using a Mac, but I’d guess that is one of Apple’s tricks to “encourage” using iTunes.
My suggested workaround:
“File menu > Export > Export as WAV”
then select a convenient place on your hard drive (not the USB stick) to export to, and enter a sensible file name.
Once the file is exported to disk, you should be able to copy (or move) it to the USB stick.
