Using Audacity 2.1.1 Mac crashed/ recover files?

I have a brand new Mac with 16GB ram running OS 10.10.5 and Audacity 2.1.1. I had an unsaved project that totally crashed. I rebooted per the instruction on the FAQ, but the auto recover couldn’t recover. The track was 37 minutes long and a podcast interview for school.

I found a page with instruction on how to recover lost files http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/recovering_crashes_manually.html#Location_of_Temporary_Folder, but can’t figure it out. I don’t know what the name of the temp folder I’m trying to locate is. When I type in the thred provided into the finder it says it is empty.

Can anyone please help me? I’m up against a tight time deadline and this grade is vastly important to my overall GPA.

Thanks

Where do we say that you should reboot? A controlled reboot (as opposed to the Mac crashing) will lead Mac to empty the Audacity temp folder, I’m afraid. We do have a bug report open to move the Audacity temp folder to somewhere that survives reboot.

If Audacity is running, open Audacity > Preferences… then look in the “Directories” section to see where the Audacity temp folder is. The page http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/recovering_crashes_manually.html#Location_of_Temporary_Folder should say that, sorry. I will fix that documentation point for the next Audacity release, if there is time.
