Usb driver error

When I connect my Audio Technica lp120 turntable to the usb port a driver error message comes up on the screen. What would cause this? I have not used it in a while, not sure if a windows update caused this. Thank you, Keith

Here’s something to try. Go into the Device Manager, navigate down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers, open the list and try to identify the driver. It might show an error, or try unplugging and re-plugging it.

Then right-click and Uninstall the Device.

Unplug it, and plug it in again. The driver should get automatically re-installed.

These things are Class Compliant so when everything works as expected they are plug-and-play with the Microsoft supplied drivers.

I tried that and now i am getting:
The USB set address request failed.

Can you try someone else’s computer?

I assume the USB port works with other things… A thumb drive, or a keyboard or mouse, etc.?

Or, you can get a cheap soundcard for a few dollars and if that doesn’t work it would confirm a problem with the computer.

Regular little USB soundcards only have microphone-in and headphone out but if it works that would point to a problem with the turntable and you could get a USB audio interface with line inputs and connect the turntable’s line-output.

P.S.
Of course, testing with something else like a thumb drive won’t help with a driver problem but if nothing works, you know the USB port hardware is bad.

Just to add to what DVDdoug has suggested make sure that in Device manager you use “show hidden devices” in the view menu. You should then see all the devices which had problems or are no longer connected. Uninstall any that say set address failed or no longer connected etc. Then reboot with turntable not plugged in and try connecting again. Also make sure that the selector switch on the turntable is correctly set.
