Upgraded to a significantly more powerful Mac...and performance suffered?

So this past weekend I finally decided to upgrade from my Mid-2012 MacBook Pro to a 2020 27" iMac. In technical terms, I went from a 2.5 GHz Dual-Core i5 with on-board graphics & 4 GB RAM running Catalina to a 3.3 GHz 6-Core i5 with a 4 GB Radeon Pro 5300 & 8 GB RAM running Big Sur.

I do quite a bit of A/V production and the faster speed has been obvious on every app…except Audacity. Audacity, it turns out, is performing FAR worse than it ever did on my MacBook. Scrolling & moving clips are stuttery and sluggish, as is the cursor during playback. On my MacBook it’s far more responsive and smooth. Playback is okay but much of what I do involves a lot of cutting & splicing and this is severely slowing my workflow.

I initially had Audacity 3.0 installed, which is where I first noticed the issue, so I downgraded to 2.4.2 which is what’s on my MacBook, but it did no good.

Has anyone else experienced this issue, and does anyone have any advice on how best to address this?
