Yesterday, Jan. 9, I downloaded the newest version of Audacity, not having used it in some years. I converted four MP4 files to MP3 to upload to my site (edleroy.net). Audacity wanted me to upload a file (lame_enc.dll) from another Web site before saving my MP3s. I did that. Since then, random words are highlighted – even here in this forum – with links to ads that have nothing to do with anything.
Apparently, my computer has become infected with something or other. My question is whether that lame file has anything to do with it. If anyone else has had similar experiences, I will appreciate hearing about solutions.
You have almost certainly got some sort of adware/malware installed.
Lame from here: http://lame1.buanzo.com.ar/ does not contain any adware/malware, though that website is an advert supported independent web site and it is possible that you may have downloaded something from an advert before you downloaded Lame (or you could have picked up the adware from somewhere else).
The first thing that I would suggest is that you run a full in-depth virus scan.
If the problem persists after that, try running “Spybot - Search & Destroy®” (there is a free version: http://www.safer-networking.org/)
