Unwanted bouncing down of track (SOLVED)

Hi to all in this forum,

Cutting to the chase…

I dragged and dropped a guitar track (wav) into ‘Audacity’.
Then I added another track and pressed record to do some vocals.
When I played back the two tracks the track I had recorded the vocals on had the guitar track dubbed onto it also, which I didn’t want to happen.
How can I resolve this to stop the bouncing down of the first track onto the second track during recording.

I use a notebook, with a sound card (USB) + microphone and headphones. This configuration has worked fine in the past with other ‘multitrack’ recording software.

If anyone in this forum can help me I would be truly grateful.

thanks,
kind regards,

In the transport menu, ensure that “Overdub” is selected (enabled) and “Software Playthrough” is not selected (disabled).

Set the recording input to the Microphone option (NOT Stereo Mix). Do this in the Device Toolbar: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Device_Toolbar

If you still get the other tracks recording on your microphone track, go into the computer sound settings and ensure that Stereo Mix (What U Hear) is not enabled.

Thank you, I’m going to try your suggestions now.

Wonderful, problem solved, thank you very much indeed.
