I’m very new to audio editing and I just downloaded Audacity recently, so my knowledge is very limited.
I’m trying to fade a track, but I don’t want to fade it all the way to near silence, just to about halfway.

So I guess what I’m asking is if there’s a way besides the Fade Out and Fade In effects to gradually change the overall volume of a track.

Yes, it’s called the envelope tool.

Also note that you can grab any of the 4 control points that are created when you mark a “handle.” The tutorials seem a bit ambiguous on this point.
