unable to use speaker volume slider to adjust recording level

Hello,

Using Audacity 2.3.0, Windows 7 Home Premium, updates and drivers current…

Was able to use speaker volume slider to adjust recording level from zero to clipping on previous Audacity version…

Updated to Audacity 2.3.0… recording level seems fixed approx midrange, is not adjustable with speaker volume slider…

Checked Audacity 2.3.0 settings… Same as previous version…

Removed, reinstalled Audacity 2.3.0… No change…

Any help would be appreciated…

Thanx…

What are you recording?

WASAPI loopback should be available on Windows 7 and later. With loopback you should get the original audio with no volume changes or bass/treble adjustments or any other effects applied by your soundcard drivers. This is usually the best option and you can always Amplify or Normalize after recording.

Stereo Mix or What-U-Hear are not available on all computers, but these will be affected playback volume and any other effects.

Many of the streaming services are now automatically volume matching so that all songs/programs are approximately the same volume. I Believe YouTube is doing this too.

Thanx for your note…

Understand about volume matching, but this non-adjustable issue appears in all music selections after installing v 2.3.0…

Using the same external amplifier speakers…

Selected WASAPI host, Speakers for playback and for recording devices…

“software playthrough of input” is not selected due to feedback…

Displayed record amplitude remains the same regardless of computer’s volume slider position…

Displayed record amplitude remains the same regardless of Audacity’s microphone volume slider position…
