Unable To Save Amplify Pre-Sets

I have been trying for hours to save an Amplify Pre-Set of .85 but it never sticks and always reverts. I would really appreciate some help. Thank you!

I’ve never tried using a preset with Amplify before, but I’m having the same problem with the 3.3.0 Beta.

When you first start Amplify, it automatically defaults to whatever amplification would set your highest peak to zero, so there is little demand for this particular preset.

Nonetheless, it doesn’t look right. If you wish, this is something you can report to the Audacity developers here: Issues · audacity/audacity · GitHub.

This is how Amplify is intended to work - it always defaults to increasing the amplitude by default to 0dB

I would suggest using Normalize instead.

Thank you very much, Jademan! There’s a real therapeutic benefit to knowing I’m not completely out to lunch. I appreciate you taking the time to reply and hope that something nice happens to you.

Wow, waxyclinder. I just tried it and it looks like it’s going to work. You are the baddest of the bad! Will that automatically prevail or do I need to apply it each time? I appreciate you taking the time to reply and hope that something nice happens to you.

It will prevail each time - that was how Amplify was designed to work right from the start, to maximize the peak signal to 0 dB.

This for example is Audacity 1.0

Peter.

Thanks, Peter! I now use Normalize at the end of a (radio show) segment to take the heat off and it works perfectly. It was really kind of you to help me. -Marshall
