First of all, thank you so much for Audacity. It is a super program!
It was working perfectly until last week when I re-booted my laptop (which runs on Vista) to factory settings.
I re-installed Audacity 2.01 from the official link. Since then I am having a problem doing multitrack recordings using overdub. (play-through is off and it is set to windows driver)
The first track records fine and plays cleanly but when I try to listen to the first whilst recording a new track alongside it, using my USB microphone and headset, the first track is jumpy, crackly, slows down, then speeds up againā¦ recording to it is all but impossible
I have been trying to solve this issue for over a week and I would be ever so grateful if anyone can help.
re-booted my laptop (which runs on Vista) to factory settings.
So what you really did was reinstall Windows, or āStepped Backā Windows to First Birthday, right? Why did you feel a need to do that? Thatās a very serious step.
I was considering buying a new laptop as the computer āexpertsā told me my hard-drive was finished and fixing my computer would cost me the same as buying a new oneā¦
I have since reinstalled windows updates and everything is working wellā¦all except the mentioned problem.
Your sound device or the way it is configured cannot cope with playing and recording at the same time. Very often this is due to using different sample rates somewhere in the configuration chain. This can cause bad quality and/or speed and synchronisation problems. Very likely you have to make changes in Windows. Try all the tips here: Audacity Manual .
