Unable to record from Youtube.

Hi,

Bit of a strange one this, I have upgraded to the latest version 2.0 but while I can here the sound from youtube perfectly it will not record in Audacity.

I checked the log file and get this as soon as I open Audacity :-

Obviously there is a problem there/ :open_mouth:

I have tried downloading and installing twice now with no change in the log.

Any advice please?

Arnak

YouTube is Flash and streaming. There is no file. You might be able to configure your computer to record live internet audio.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

A further update, please ignore the log file as I found an answer regarding that as being normal due to a plugin or similar that is not required.

I am using VIsta which I did neglect to mention.

As regards to a file, yes I agree that it is streaming from youtube and that normally works flawlessly with Audacity.

In fact I do not think the problem is with Audacity at all but something that has changed on my PC as my other PC on an earlier version of Audacity works perfectly with you tube as usual.

What I am asking for help with is what else could cause Audacity to not record in that manner as I have checked the recording settings and they appear to be correct when checked against the sound settings regarding the input selection.

The sound plays perfectly on the pc but for some reason is not being picked up in Audacity.

So any advice on how I should go about finding what is wrong would be helpful.

What settings do you currently have?

Hi,

Settings are :-

Windows direct sound, Speakers c - media, Rec Playback IDT sound, 2 stereo.

The rec playback is the default in windows.

I bet somehting is wrong in the pc but what?

Arnak

Try recording using “Sound Recorder”. This is a very basic tool but it will establish if the problem is with Audacity or with your computer sound setup.
If you have trouble recording with Sound Recorder, see if any of this helps: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-sound/i-have-a-dell-latitude-e6410-i-am-unable-to-record/661e1418-7fda-40d4-ac58-512cda6219e5?tab=MoreHelp

Hi,

Thanks for the tip, I downloaded and used freecorder, that solves the problem as I can them put the files into audacity to work on.
