I’m using Audacity on a Macbook pro running macOS 10.15. I’m recording an audiobook and each chapter is a separate Audacity file. One chapter causes Audacity to hang and I can’t open the project. Other chapters seem to open OK but I need to quit Audacity each time I want to open a different file/chapter. I had been editing the chapter that now hangs and the problem seemed to start when I applied the Filter Curve effect, although for a while I was still able to open and edit the project. I’ve read on the forum various suggestions such as exporting the project as a WAV file and reimporting it but I can’t get to that step because it won’t open. I’m now really nervous about using Audacity for the rest of the audiobook, and I really don’t want to lose all the work I’ve done with recording up to this point. Help!
No word on which Audacity you have. There is no “latest.” We need a number. Audacity (upper left) > About Audacity.
Something is unstable. You should not need to close Audacity between chapters. How long are the chapters?
Koz
What happens if you don’t close Audacity between chapters?
Koz
Its Audacity 3.0.2. The chapters are about an hour long before editing. If I don’t quit between editing it just doesn’t open, as in nothing happens at all. Thanks
I see that my Audacity is not actually the latest version so I’ll try updating and see if that makes a difference.
Unfortunately updating it didn’t fix the problem.
Are you able to open any projects?
How much free space is there on your computer’s hard drive?
Please attach the crash report ZIP file to your reply (see: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1)
Yes, all my other projects open fine.
I have 27.22GB of storage on my laptop.
I’ve attached the crash report ZIP below.
Thanks

Thanks. I don’t see anything obvious there.
Could you upload that AUP3 file somewhere for the Audacity developers to look at (perhaps “Google Drive” or “Dropbox”). If you need to keep it private, you can send me the link via PM (private message) and I’ll pass it on to the developers.
Thanks.Got it.
Surprisingly that project opens for me
I’ve forwarded the link to one of the developers.
Hi Molly!
Thank you for your report, it really helped us to identify the underlying bug!
