I have Windows 10 on my laptop and have just downloaded Audacity 2.31, replacing an older version, but have found I no longer have the ACX-check; when I try to download it I am immediately asked if I want Audacity 2.31 to be installed. I feel I’m going round in circles - please help…

when I try to download it I am immediately asked if I want Audacity 2.31 to be installed.
Are you saying that when you click “download” on this page it asks if you want to install Audacity? …Hard to believe!
just downloaded Audacity 2.31,
I assume you mean 2.3.1, but you wrote 2.31 twice and we have to make sure people have a “legitimate” copy of Audacity.
The file is Acx-check.ny so you might want to search to see if it’s already on your hard drive you may not need to download it again.
I keep a folder called Installers-Keys-Settings. Everything I download goes in there first and I install from there if possible. It gives me a running backup (and I do back it up) of everything I have.
There’s a folder called Firefox. It has installers and it has a safety copy of my bookmarks in two formats.
