Trying to make volume even across multiple tracks

Preface: I’m still a complete newb finding his way with Audacity

While I was recording audio with a friend, despite having turned him up louder than normal, my recording software recorded his track oddly quiet. So I’ve been trying to make his volume even with my own, on top of all the other corrections I normally try to make to our recordings.

This is what the recording was like before I did anything to it

Then I ran it through a Noise Filter > Filter Curve EQ > Loudness Normalization > Limiter > Normalize > Legacy Compressor to get it like this…

Would this be considered acceptable? Am I doing too much for too little? I’m just wondering if there might be a simpler way to go about correcting this that might give a better quality output to what I’ve come up with?

I’m really just trying to find my footing, as the more time I spend messing with the audio, the less good I feel like I’m doing.

Was really hoping someone with more expertise than myself would weigh in…

Just another poke, looking for someone in the know
