Trying to export AUP to wav

When I hit export audio then I select convert to wav, Follow the remaining steps, it saves a file, but there’s no recognizable file type. I can import that same file from my desktop back to Audacity, and it plays, but it’s still AUP. It’s not converting to any file type, I’ve tried many and it still shows as a wav.

You don’t actually convert an AUP to WAV. You open the Project by double clicking the AUP file. Audacity will use the AUP’s text instructions and the _DATA folder to recreate the show or Project in Audacity. Then you File > Export Audio: WAV (Microsoft) from the open Project.

That’s when you walk away with a .wav file. Do you have Windows set to show you hidden filename extensions? Highly recommended when you start to get lost.

Oh, one more. Don’t put any punctuation marks in the export filename. Trying to put a dot in the export name may mess things up.

What???

I can import that same file from my desktop back to Audacity, and it plays, but it’s still AUP. It’s not converting to any file type

Does this mystery file play in Windows Media Player? If so, it’s some kind of audio file and NOT an AUP file.

A “CD quality” WAV file (16-bits, 44.1kHz, stereo) is about 10MB per minute. An AUP file will be much smaller.

I don’t really grok it either…

Could it be he’s just missing the .wav extension on the file and Windows doesn’t know how to deal with it?

When I hit export audio then I select convert to wav,

Right away the first sentence didn’t come out right. I think we need to wait for them to come back. Maybe get more of a step-by-step.

On the other hand, this could be a zombie post establishing an active account for later. Tell me that doesn’t sound like a floor-sweepings collection of random posts.

As Koz said, don’t put dots (periods) in the file name. If you want to export

hula.hula.wav

you must type exactly that, not

hula.hula

If that is the problem, there is more explanation here:
