Whenever I hit the “Play” button, a message appears saying "Error while opening sound device. Please check the output device settings and the project sample rate. I do not know what a project sample rate is, but I have the output set to the default “speakers and headphones.” The same message appears if I try to record something. I just don’t know anymore. Thanks.
Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Playback
Make sure that’s pointed to the right place.
Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Quality > Sampling
Try setting that to 44100, 16-bit. OK
Restart Audacity.
Did it always do this? Is this a new install? Did you just recently try to capture music from a USB turntable?
So you have Skype?
Koz
I followed your instructions and it still displays the same message.
I do have skype. I am not sure if I have the latest Audacity installed. I am using 2.0.2.
Any other suggestions?
Yes. Now we’re going to need the long-form information. Windows version? Which computer and by whom? Laptop? Model Numbers? What are you trying to record? Has this ever worked? Have you used earlier versions of Audacity?
