Tracks don't line up.

Recording on moukey msc1 / windows 10 / audacity 2.4.2. I record the drum track , then record a guitar track below it. But when I play them back , they don’t line up. If I mute the guitar track , the drum track plays perfectly. I’ve tried everything in the timeline arrow options but can’t get anything to work. Any help would be appreciated.

Before doing an “overdub” recording, it is necessary to set up “latency correction”. See: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/latency_test.html

If latency correction is not set up correctly you will need to manually align the tracks with the Time Shift Tool.

After a few attempts at getting the latency corrected , it finally lines up. I’m hoping thi is not an everyday occurrence , because I’ve had it at the same latency for the past three weeks and it’s never gone off like this.

Latency will change if you change to a different audio device, or if the “Project Rate” changes (lower left corner of the main Audacity window). Other changes to the system could possibly change the latency, but normally it stays pretty much the same assuming that the recording system does not change.

I’ll keep an eye on that. Thanks. I just got done with a many track project and alot of different instruments. I’m sure that had something to do with it. My latency went from 135 to 199. Threw me completely off.

The time shift tool works nicely to. I ca fix anything that starts to wander.
