Track suddenly very quiet

I’m pretty new to Audacity.

I have a track (voice) that “suddenly” became very low volume. I cannot reconstruct it. Knowingly I had used only the effects “Filter Curve”, “Compressor”, “Amplify?” (German “Verstärken”, increase volume), sometimes also “Normalize”.
After I marked the track and transferred it via CTRL C and CTRL V to new track, the volume was back to normal. (I discovered this solution by accident.) What could have been the cause?

I had used only the effects “Filter Curve”, “Compressor”, “Amplify?” (German “Verstärken”, increase volume),

Any of those effects can change the volume up or down depending on the settings. (Amplify will attenuate if you enter a negative dB change.)

sometimes also “Normalize”.

If the volume is low Normalize should bring it back up (with the default -1dB setting). Same thing with Amplify set to the default of 0dB new peak.

It is not unusual to accidentally “bump” either the track gain slider or the pan control in the track control panel. Perhaps that happened to you.

I hope this helps.
