Tiny sounds [SOLVED]

HI new to this Prog, seems real good, but have a problem, which I hope someone can help with, if possible.

If I listen and record a track off the NET everything works as it should, BUT, if I listen the track appears to to have body,( on the NET) with the sounds in it somehow balanced. But when I play back it’s all somehow all there but the sounds or some of them
Appear to be not balanced and the whole thing has this slight cheap tiny sound to it, it’s lost that full body sound. Probably a crap description but some may know what I mean. How can I get what I am listening to, to the same quality and levels as I have just listen to direct off the NET.
:frowning:

Topic moved to Windows forum.

My guess is that you are recording on a laptop computer and you are inadvertently recording via the built-in mic rather than directly recording the audio stream that is playing on your computer. Which version of Windows are you using, and which version of Audacity? (The Audacity version is shown in “Help menu > About Audacity”)
(I’m guessing that you are using Windows 7 as that is what it says on your profile, but please confirm)

Hi thanks for reply;

No, not a laptop, using win 7 on desktop machine mic turned off, so direct via NET, PC, through Audacity, headphones on while recording. It’s seems as though, if you like, some of the background tracks or sounds are not recorded as high or loud as the main beat part of the track, thus it’s as though the other instruments are in part getting lost or almost when recording. Have not adjusted anything.

Best I can describe it after doing it again is, when I play it, is like I am stood near speakers, has power and feels up close, when I listen to recording, sounds as though I have moved right away from the music and listing kind down a tunnel, lost that up close picking all the instruments out thing. ODD!!

Try using the “WASAPI loopback” method as described on this page of the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tutorial_recording_computer_playback_on_windows.html

WOW! THANKS you’r a guru; I cracked it, BIG thanks.
